Big Question #2 - Hell...I don't understand

I think I can leave out most of the scriptural quotes - everyone knows many of them.  Shame and everlasting contempt - everlasting punishment - everlasting destruction - eternal fire.

The point is, it is ETERNAL.  Yet in Revelations 20:14 you have: Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

Is there a question as to which is it?  Is it eternal or does it get destroyed someday?

Here's my bigger question:  So if you are in hell being tortured/punished...who is doing the torturing and punishing?  The obvious answer of "Satan and his demons" is a tempting one, but then again, aren't they going to be thrown in the lake of fire someday?  And when/if they do torture you at all, how unfair is that?  THEY get to enjoy torturing YOU?  THEY are part of the reason you are there!  They deserve MORE punishment, if anything, not less!

I've been confused about this whole part of Hell.  I mean, they would escape punishment just to torture you?  I don't get it.

  1. Hi John,

Here is some verses that make it clear that Hell it's self is cast into the lake of fire.

1Co 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Re 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Re 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
Ps 50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.

Yes even Satan is burned up and nothing but ashes.

Eze 28:14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Eze 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

The fire is eternal but the things that land in it are consumed, that fire is our God, for the scripture states He is a consuming fire.

    Hope that helps.

    Gibs
